As with any filter, high loads of pellet hops can sometimes plug the filter. We recommend a vigorous whirlpool at the end of the boil, letting it sit for 15-20 min and draining slowly to prevent disturbing the sediment. If this is not successful, we recommend bagging your hops in a reuseable nylon mesh bag.

Not recommended for mashing. Use the optional button louver false bottom instead.

HI FOLKS, just a quick note letting you know that we have been getting some reports from customers about plugging in the optional BoilerMaker boil screens.  We have moved to a slightly coarser mesh, but the 30 and 55gal sizes will likely still struggle with high pellet hop loads, proteins, and other particulates.  Therefore, we are NOT recommending that they be used on the 30 and 55gal models.  For those models, we recommend placing a stainless steel scouring pad on the dip tube in lieu of the optional boil screen.  

Recommendations for best performance of the screens (this is in the manual):

Place pellet hops in a reusable fine mesh nylon hop bag (whole hops do not seem to present a problem)

Whirlpool vigorously and let settle for 15-20 min prior to draining

Drain slowly so not to disturb the settled particulates

Perform a protein rest in high protein beers (eg. wheat, oatmeal etc.)
